Samara Weaving’s Horror Sequel Gets Lower RT Score Than First Movie

Reviews for Samara Weaving‘s horror sequel have surfaced ahead of its theatrical release. While a majority of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come‘s reviews are positive, they have resulted in a Rotten Tomatoes score that, while healthy, is considerably lower than that of the original film, released in 2019.

What critics are saying about Ready or Not 2: Here I Come in reviews

A majority of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’s reviews praise the film’s style, structure, and individual performances and chemistry between the film’s two leads, Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton.

Den of Geek‘s David Crow wrote in his review that the film is “buoyant in its optimism and good vibes, even while staring into the abyss.” He added, “If the world is doomed, we can at least take catharsis in a fantasy where Grace relaxes in her murder-gown while eviscerating the ruling class with (eventually) a smile on her face.”

Meanwhile, Tessa Smith of Mama’s Geeky highlighted that it maintained the “gritty, dark humorous spirit of the original” while also expanding on “the lore and the scale.” She further noted, “It’s funny, it’s visceral, and it’s a lesson in how to do a horror sequel right.” Smith also praised Weaving and Newton’s performances, labeling them “a top-tier horror duo.”

ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim gave the movie an 8/10 score, which, as per review policy, is “great.” He noted in his review that while it lost “the gothic intimacy” that made its predecessor “special,” it made up for it with “inventive carnage, colorful villains, and another terrific performance from Samara Weaving.”

Bleeding Cool‘s Kaitlyn Booth shared in her review that the sequel, despite being incredibly similar to the first and lacking some originality as a result, is nonetheless able to “justify its own existence,” due to boasting “enough fun characters and kills.”

Elsewhere, Deadline‘s Glenn Garner deemed it the “action-packed, blood-soaked sequel” fans have been demanding for years. He also expressed hope that a trilogy was being set up by the filmmakers.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come draws lower Rotten Tomatoes score than first movie

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come has a robust critical score of 81% on Rotten Tomatoes thanks to multiple positive reviews. However, it’s lower than the first one’s score — a “Certified Fresh” 89%. Meanwhile, the audience score of the original is a healthy 78%.

The film hits theaters on March 20, 2026. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett helmed it. Meanwhile, Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy co-wrote the movie.
