Wendi McClendon-Covey on why she missed Bridesmaids reunion at Oscars
Wendi McClendon-Covey took to Instagram to reveal the reason behind her absence at the Oscars 2026, especially the Bridesmaids reunion. The actress shared a selfie of her lying on the bed with a medical tape wrapped around her head and under her chin.
She wrote in the caption, “In response to some of the dms I’m getting: I had a neck lift last week because I’m tired of looking like a melting candle.” The 56-year-old further added, “So I had to skip the Academy Awards. No drama. Everything is fine.”
Netizens also shared their reactions in the comments section, with one writing, “I love how real this post is!!! You were missed.” Another one hilariously stated, “In a world where both an Academy Award and a neck lift are personal aspirations, I think I’d still choose the neck lift.” A third user commented, “We love to see our queen relaxing!” A fourth user said, “I was wondering where you were!! Feel better, Wendi!!” Another fan commented, “We missed you there so much though! But glad you’re doing okay.”
Bridesmaids stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Maya Rudolph, and Ellie Kemper graced the stage at the Oscars to present the award for Best Score. “We are so happy to all be here together tonight,” said Wiig. She also joked regarding the comedy-drama’s milestone, “I cannot believe that it’s been 15 years. Now we are not good with numbers, but we figured out backstage that means we shot this movie in 1883.”
Additionally, the team read out fun notes presumably written by nominees in the audience. Byrne read a note claiming that by Leonardo DiCaprio. “Rose: Can you please stop looking at me? The eye contact is too much. I’m thinking of leaving. I’m very uncomfortable,” she read. Rudolph’s letter went, “Oh, this is strange. Well, mine says, ‘First of all, you ladies look extremely beautiful tonight.’ Thank you. ‘You’re aging well.’ Signed, Stellan Skarsgård.”
