Project Hail Mary Directors Tease New Sci-Fi Movie After Ryan Gosling Blockbuster
Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller recently teased plans for their next sci-fi movie following Project Hail Mary with Ryan Gosling.
What do we know about Artemis?
In 2017, Lord and Miller signed on to direct Artemis, an adaptation of Andy Weir‘s sci-fi novel. Weir also wrote The Martian and Project Hail Mary, the latter being Lord and Miller’s latest directorial project.
Artemis centers around Jasmine Bashara, aka Jazz, a resident of Artemis, the first and only city on the moon. Per the official synopsis, “She’s got debts to pay, her job as a porter barely covers the rent, and her budding career as a smuggler isn’t exactly setting her up as a kingpin, much to her disappointment. So when the chance at a life-changing score drops in her lap, Jazz can’t say no, and she finds herself in the middle of a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself.”
Artemis never exited the development stage, and Lord and Miller opted to make Project Hail Mary instead. However, the duo told THR that Artemis is still on the table and could be one of their next projects.
“There is an Artemis script. It’s delightful,” Miller said. “The thing that was holding that back for years was, how do we execute one-sixth gravity? The story takes place on the moon. We think we’ve figured it out. That’s one of the ones that’s possible.”
Lord and Miller are currently on the promotional trail for Project Hail Mary, which stars Gosling as Ryland Grace, a science teacher who wakes up on a spaceship with no memories of how he got there. Grace eventually realizes he must determine why the sun is dying. Along the way, he meets an unlikely ally who may hold the key to saving the world.
Amazon MGM Studios is scheduled to release Project Hail Mary on March 20.
