Aaron Taylor‑Johnson and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Blood on Snow acquired by Sky
Sky has obtained the U.K. rights to the upcoming crime thriller Blood on Snow. It will be directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and adapted from the bestselling novel by Norwegian author Jo Nesbø. With the acquisition, the project will be released in the United Kingdom as a Sky Original, with a theatrical rollout currently planned for 2027. As of now, a precise release date has not yet been announced.
The film brings together an ensemble cast led by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Benedict Cumberbatch. It also features Eva Green, Emma Laird, and Ben Mendelsohn. Moreover, the screenplay has been written by Nesbø in collaboration with Ben Power.
Set in Oslo’s criminal underworld, the story follows Olav, played by Taylor-Johnson, a trusted hitman who works for a powerful crime boss named Hoffman, portrayed by Cumberbatch. When Hoffman orders Olav to kill his own wife, the assignment puts the hitman in a difficult position. Instead of carrying out the order, Olav refuses and begins to plan a different course of action. His decision soon places him in danger and draws him into a violent conflict within Oslo’s criminal underworld.
Speaking about the acquisition, Sky’s head of original film, Andrew Orr, said, “We’re delighted to be working with an exciting filmmaker of Cary Joji Fukunaga’s caliber, as we continue to build a fresh and diverse offering of Original films (via Variety).”
The film is produced by Mike Larocca and Michael Schaefer through Department M. Meanwhile, executive producers include Tallulah Fairfax, Damiano Tucci, Sophia Banks, and Tiziano Tucci.
Blood on Snow is currently expected to arrive in U.K. theaters in 2027 as part of Sky’s expanding slate of original films.
