Marlon Wayans reveals why Shannon Elizabeth isn’t in Scary Movie 6
In an interaction with The Shade Room, Marlon Wayans addressed why Shannon Elizabeth, who played Buffy Gilmore in the original Scary Movie, wasn’t part of the upcoming sixth installment.
He revealed that the decision not to include her wasn’t “personal” and due to “too many” actors from the original film returning. Wayans stated, “Love Shannon, definitely wasn’t personal. But it was toooooo many people coming back.”
However, he noted that the door remained open for her to return later on, stressing that the franchise wasn’t “going nowhere.”
Wayans’ response comes after Shannon Elizabeth’s recent interview with Entertainment Tonight. When asked if she was interested in reprising Buffy for Scary Movie 6, the American Pie star responded, “Oh yeah, absolutely.”
Further, she expressed her hope that she would be part of the film, but didn’t get the call from the creatives. However, she said that she would watch it as a fan. The 52-year-old added, “I think watching everyone together again will be really special.”
Also in the interview, she briefly reflected on her time playing the character. Elizabeth revealed she accepted the part as she was drawn to Buffy’s “funny” nature, “quirky lines,” and “physical comedy,” while reading the script. She added, “It was just something really different.”
She then touched upon the iconic pageant scene from the first film and its enduring impact on pop culture. The Cuts alum shared that during autograph signings, she would meet fans who could quote every line from that scene, word-for-word, by heart, which was something that stood out to her.
“I’ve had so many people, just like melt my heart with how much they loved all of it,” she continued. “But in the time you’re doing it, you just don’t even know.” Elizabeth further stated, “Yeah. You just don’t even realize. You’re just trying to do a good job.”
