Azaria took to Instagram to share a video honoring the 30th anniversary of the comedy movie The Birdcage. In the clip, he sported his famous Agador tank top emblazoned with the quote “Straight Looking” and shared a few words on the film’s anniversary. He started the video with, “Hello, everybody. It’s the 30th anniversary of The Birdcage movie, so I wore my special shirt.”

Chaneling his inner Agador, he added, “Fun fact: This is an impression of my maternal grandmother. My grandma Esther — we called her Mama. Rest in peace, Mama.” He then paid tribute to his 1996 co-stars and the director, who had all passed away. “And rest in peace, Gene Hackman and Robin Williams and Mike Nichols,” he said.

The post’s caption read, “Hard to believe this week marks 30 years since #TheBirdcage came out. I had to put on my special shirt to celebrate!” In the movie, Robin Williams and Gene Hackman played  Armand Goldman and Senator Kevin Keeley, respectively.

Williams died by suicide in 2014 at the age of 63, while Hackman passed away from heart disease in 2025 at the age of 95. Meanwhile, the film’s director, Mike Nichols, died in 2014 at the age of 83, with a heart attack cited as the cause of death.

The Birdcage centers around two gay lovers, pretending to be a heterosexual couple, to win the hearts of the conservative family of their son’s partner.
