Reminders of Him: Colleen Hoover Movie Is Best Enjoyed Knowing This Beforehand
With Reminders of Him coming out in the United States this weekend, there are a few things that people might want to know about the new Colleen Hoover movie before walking into the theaters.
Reminders of Him comes from Universal Pictures and director Vanessa Caswill. Based on a 2022 novel by Hoover, the film stars Maika Monroe as Keena Rowan, Tyriq Withers as Ledger Ward, Rudy Pankow as Scotty Landry, Lauren Graham as Grace Landry, and Bradley Whitford as Patrick Landry.
“After a perfect outing with her boyfriend, Kenna (Maika Monroe; The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, Longlegs) makes an unbearable mistake that sends her to prison,” the synopsis for the movie reads. “Seven years later, Kenna returns to her hometown in Wyoming, hoping to rebuild her life and earn the chance to reunite with her young daughter, Diem, whom she has never known. When Diem’s custodial grandparents adamantly refuse Kenna’s attempts to see her daughter, Kenna discovers unexpected compassion, and then Him truer and deeper, with former NFL player and local bar owner Ledger (Tyriq Withers; HIM, I Know What You Did Last Summer). As their secret romance develops, so do the dangers for both of them, leading Kenna toward heartbreak and, ultimately, the hope for a second chance.”
What should people know about Reminders of Him before walking into the theater?
Reminders of Him is the third feature film (there was also a 2017 miniseries based on 2015’s Confess) that is adapted from Hoover’s work, following 2024’s It Ends with Us and 2025’s Regretting You. Early reviews are describing the film as being very much in the same vein as the aforementioned titles, meaning it’s a heavy, sometimes melodramatic, romance that is trying to make you cry.
This film, however, is receiving better reviews than It Ends with Us and (especially) Regretting You, suggesting that Reminders of Him may still be worth a shot even if those two other movies didn’t work for you, as critics are saying this film is ultimately more effective. A large part of that seems to be because of the on-screen chemistry shared between Monroe and Withers.
Additionally, Reminders of Him is the first screenplay that Hoover has actually written. She was involved with Confess, It Ends with Us, and Regretting You as an executive producer; this film, however, features a script that she wrote herself, meaning those who are big fans of her writing may be extra inclined to check this one out.
Reminds of Him arrives in theaters on March 13, 2026.
