KPop Demon Hunters 2 Finally Gets the Update Netflix Movie Fans Have Wanted
Netflix has announced a massive KPop Demon Hunters 2 update, with news that is sure to make fans of the pop culture phenomenon happy.
What’s the newest KPop Demon Hunters 2 update?
The streamer has confirmed what many reports had already said, that a sequel to the film is officially in the works. Netflix also revealed that both Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans are returning to direct the project, which will be the first under their exclusive, multiyear writing and directing partnership.
Although no official release date information was given, most reports on a sequel suggest that the movie will not be coming out anytime soon. Most recent reports on the film suggest that the sequel will not arrive until sometime in 2029, due to how long it takes to not only develop the movie, but also to animate it.
“I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters,” says Kang. “There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.”
“These characters are like family to us, their world has become our second home. We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve — and continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation, and story can come together,” said Appelhans.
Originally released in 2025, KPop Demon Hunters was directed by Kang and Appelhans and starred Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun. The film followed the story of a K-pop girl group, Huntr/x, that double as demon hunters who use their music to face off against their foes.
The film was a massive success upon its release. Since its release in June, KPop Demon Hunters has become the most-watched original title in Netflix history, and its soundtrack has also received Platinum certification from the RIAA. To date, the soundtrack continues to be massively successful, and is the first soundtrack with four simultaneous Top 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100.
The movie has also garnered tons of awards, with the film winning Best Motion Picture – Animated at the Golden Globes, and the song “Golden” also winning Best Original Song at the Golden Globes. The movie is also nominated for two Academy Awards at the upcoming show, including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Golden.”
