New Sense and Sensibility Movie Release Date Delayed for Daisy Edgar-Jones Adaptation

Focus Features‘ newest film adaptation of Jane Austen‘s 1811 novel, Sense and Sensibility, has received a major update about its theatrical release date. The film will be led by Golden Globe nominee Daisy Edgar-Jones, who is playing the role of Elinor Dashwood.

When is the new release date for Daisy Edgar-Jones’ Sense and Sensibility movie?

Originally scheduled to debut on September 11, 2026, Edgar-Jones’ Sense and Sensibility movie has officially been pushed back by one month. Per TheWrap, the new adaptation will now arrive in theaters on October 16, 2026, pitting it directly against Street Fighter and Whalefall at the box office.

Described as a fresh take on the Jane Austen classic, the upcoming adaptation is directed by Georgia Oakley (Blue Jean) from a screenplay written by bestselling author Diana Reid. The ensemble cast includes Esmé Creed-Miles, Caitríona Balfe, Frank Dillane, Herbert Nordrum, Bodhi Rae Breathnach, George MacKay, and Fiona Shaw. The story follows the lives of the Dashwood sisters and their mother, who are forced to move out of their home after their father’s death. The project is produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films, alongside India Flint of November Pictures and Jo Wallett.

Before Edgar-Jones’ movie, the novel was famously adapted in 1995 by acclaimed filmmaker Ang Lee, starring award-winning actors Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Kate Winslet, and Hugh Grant. It currently holds a near-perfect Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Besides Sense and Sensibility, there are more Jane Austen adaptations on the way, including Netflix’s upcoming series and modern remake of Austen’s popular Pride and Prejudice novel.
