Scream 8 Update Is Sure to Divide Horror Movie Fans
The latest Scream 8 update is extremely polarizing and will likely divide horror movie fans.
What is the Scream 8 update?
Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first Scream, returned to the franchise for Scream 7. In addition to penning the script, Williamson directed Scream 7, his first directorial effort in the franchise.
Financially, Scream 7 opened to a franchise-best $64 million at the domestic box office. As of March 12, Scream 7 has grossed $151 million worldwide. Critically, Scream 7 is the worst-reviewed movie in the franchise, with a 31% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Scream 8 is rumored to be in development. At the Scream 7 premiere, Williamson revealed he started “spit-balling” ideas for Scream 8 and that star Neve Campbell had a “great idea” for the eighth installment. Frankly, Scream 8 feels inevitable, especially following the seventh movie’s financial success.
If Scream 8 happens, Williamson has no plans to direct. While speaking with Hello Sidney, Williamson explained why he does not want to direct the eighth installment of Scream.
“I think the next Scream, I’ll probably step back and be part of the family again,” Williamson said.
Instead of directing Scream 8, Williamson wants to prioritize his other projects, including a few TV shows.
“I want to direct another film that I have written. That is just waiting for me to find the time to direct,” Williamson said. “Right now, I’m working on a couple TV shows. Maybe I’ll direct one of those. Who knows.”
Williamson added, “It’s nice to be part of the Scream family. That doesn’t mean I always have to be front and center. I don’t always have to write or direct. Other people can take the reins.”
Williamson penned the first four movies in the Scream franchise. He then served as an executive producer on Scream 5 and Scream VI.
Scream 7 is now in theaters.
