1 Major Hobbit Actor Confirms She’s Not in LOTR: The Hunt for Gollum

The world of The Lord of the Rings is expanding again with the upcoming film The Hunt for Gollum. However, one familiar face from The Hobbit film series has confirmed she will not appear in the new Middle-earth project.

Evangeline Lilly hasn’t been ‘invited’ to Middle-earth in The Hunt for Gollum

Evangeline Lilly recently revealed that she will not return to Middle-earth for the upcoming film The Hunt for Gollum. The actress shared the update while interacting with fans on Instagram.

One fan asked if her character, Tauriel, might show up in the new movie, since Lilly previously called the role a dream opportunity in her career. The actress responded directly, writing, “Sorry to disappoint, but I wasn’t invited.” She added that she did briefly visit the production team during the preparation phase in New Zealand and enjoyed reconnecting with them.

Lilly stepped into the role of Tauriel in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. The elf warrior wasn’t part of J. R. R. Tolkien’s original The Hobbit novel. Filmmakers created the character specifically for the big-screen trilogy.

Peter Jackson directed The Hobbit trilogy, which arrived in theaters between 2012 and 2014. The three films act as a prequel story to The Lord of the Rings film series. The story follows Bilbo Baggins as he joins a band of dwarves on a quest to win back their stolen homeland.

The trilogy pulled huge numbers at the global box office and kept fans locked into the fantasy world. Its final chapter, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, also brought in hundreds of millions worldwide.

The Hunt for Gollum will expand the big-screen stories set in the world created by J. R. R. Tolkien. The film is expected to hit worldwide theatres on December 17, 2027. The lineup reportedly includes Oscar winner Kate Winslet along with Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, and Andy Serkis. Story-wise, the movie will slide into the timeline between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (via Variety).
