Jack Black’s New Monster Movie Sets Netflix Streaming Release Date
Jack Black and Paul Rudd headline a wild jungle adventure that will soon move to streaming. The monster comedy tied to a long-running franchise now has an official debut date on Netflix.
Anaconda makes streaming debut on Netflix this month
The 2025 reboot of Anaconda is heading to Netflix on March 25, giving the film its first run on a major streaming platform (via ScreenRant). The movie originally hit theaters on Christmas Day last year and has been available on a few digital services since then.
Right now, viewers can still rent or buy the film through platforms like Prime Video.
Tom Gormican directs the new movie and co-writes the script with Kevin Etten. The film takes a cheeky, meta-style spin on the Anaconda franchise instead of doing a simple remake. The story follows four childhood friends dealing with classic midlife meltdowns. They decide to relive their younger days by recreating their favorite movie, the original Anaconda.
The group heads deep into the Amazon rainforest to shoot their passion project, but things go off the rails fast. What starts as a fun nostalgia trip turns into a survival nightmare. The friends soon run into a gigantic and deadly anaconda, and their movie-making adventure spirals straight into chaos.
The film also brings together a stacked cast. Jack Black and Paul Rudd lead the lineup, joined by Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, Daniela Melchior, and Selton Mello. The movie also features appearances from Ice Cube, Ione Skye, and Ben Lawson. Longtime fans get a fun surprise, too. Jennifer Lopez pops in for a quick cameo, briefly playing herself.
At the box office, the reboot has held its own. The film has pulled in about $134.3 million worldwide against a $45 million reported budget. That number comes very close to the $136.8 million earned by the original Anaconda, which was also made for roughly the same cost (via Box Office Mojo). Reviews have been a mixed bag. Critics gave the movie a 48% score on Rotten Tomatoes. On IMDb, the movie sits at a decent 5.6/10 score.
