Dwayne Johnson confirms that Jumanji 3 has begun production
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed that Jumanji 3 has officially begun production in Los Angeles. He described it as the “final film” in the long-running adventure franchise. In an Instagram post, Johnson wrote, “Officially kicking off production of JUMANJI, at our cast table read in Los Angeles – where we will film as well.” He described the new sequel as “a massive, fun, heartfelt adventure,” adding, “Feels emotionally appropriate for our beloved JUMANJI franchise to end on this beautiful grace note of our final film.”
Johnson also revealed that the new installment includes an homage to the original 1995 film starring Robin Williams. He shared that his character, Dr. Smolder Bravestone, will wear a necklace featuring “the dice from the original 1995 JUMANJI,” calling it “a way of paying homage, love and respect to the great Robin Williams.” The actor said the cast’s reunion brought back the spirit of the earlier films. He added, “Amazing to get the whole gang back together, and our jaws were hurting from laughing so hard.”
Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black reunited in Los Angeles for the table read. Jake Kasdan returns as director and co-writer alongside Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. The film will mark the first Jumanji installment to shoot primarily in Los Angeles rather than Hawaii or Atlanta.
Sony Pictures confirmed the release date for Jumanji 3 as Christmas 2026. Johnson closed his announcement by quoting the original film’s key line, writing, “…in order for you to end the game, you must save Jumanji and call out its name.”
