ComingSoon is debuting an exclusive video from Playdate, the upcoming action comedy film starring Alan Ritchson and Kevin James. Playdate is set to release on November 12, 2025, and will be available on Prime Video.
“When recently unemployed accountant Brian (Kevin James) agrees to a playdate with charismatic stay-at-home dad Jeff (Alan Ritchson) and their sons, he expects an easy afternoon of small talk and football tossing,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “Instead, he’s thrust into a chaotic scramble to stay alive as they are pursued by a ruthless team of mercenaries. Brian stumbles through one ridiculous obstacle after another, his zero tactical skills a stark contrast to Jeff’s oddly prepared demeanor.”

What happens in the Playdate video?
The featurette features interviews with various members of the cast, including both Ritchson and James, as they explore what makes the upcoming movie so enjoyable. The pair talk about the heart at the center of it, as well as what it was like for Ritchson to step into the world of comedy and learn from a veteran of it like James.
Alongside Ritchson and James, the cast of Playdate features a star-studded group, including Sarah Chalke, Alan Tudyk, Stephen Root, Isla Fisher, Benjamin Pajak, and Banks Pierce. The movie is directed by Luke Greenfield, from a script written by Neil Goldman.
Greenfield made his feature film directorial debut in 2001 with The Animal starring Rob Schneider. Following that, he went on to make 2004’s The Girl Next Door, 2011’s Something Borrowed, and 2014’s Let’s Be Cops. His most recent film was 2020’s Half Brothers, while he has also helmed episodes of Aliens in America and The Neighbors.
