Sydney Sweeney, Fast & Furious Director Team for Remake of Acclaimed Movie

Emmy nominee Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, Anyone But You) has signed on for the leading role in Apple Original Films‘ upcoming That Man From Rio remake, with Justin Lin (Fast & Furious movies) set to direct. The project will be based on the classic 1964 French movie of the same name.

What do we know about Sydney Sweeney’s That Man From Rio remake?

According to Deadline, Apple’s That Man From Rio remake is described as an adventure comedy movie, which will be produced by Lin for Perfect Storm Entertainment and by Kevin Walsh for The Walsh Company. Further details about the remake’s plot and characters are still under wraps, but it’s expected to feature a modern take on the original story.

In addition to leading the cast, Sweeney has also boarded the project as an executive producer. Lin will be directing from a screenplay written by Chase Palmer. This marks Sweeney’s newest collaboration with Apple Original Films and Walsh after recently working together on the thriller movie Echo Valley.

The original 1964 movie was directed by Philippe de Broca, with French stars Jean-Paul Belmondo and Françoise Dorléac leading the cast. It followed the story of military man Adrien and his fiancée Agnes, as they embark on an adventure to Brazil to rescue museum curator Professor Catalan from a group of Amazon tribesmen who kidnapped him. It served as one of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas’ inspirations for Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones.

Sweeney will next be seen in the sports biopic Christy and in Lionsgate’s film adaptation of The Housemaid, which are arriving in theaters this year. In addition, she is also set to reprise her role as Cassie in the long-delayed Euphoria Season 3.
