Blake Lively Wins Confidentiality Order in Justin Baldoni Lawsuit

A new update in the ongoing legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni has popped up, with Lively securing a win in the form of a judge granting her request to limit the disclosure of certain material.

What is the confidentiality order about in Blake Lively’s lawsuit?

According to a federal judge’s ruling on Thursday (via Variety), certain discovery material found in in the lead up to the trial between the two will be kept to “attorneys eyes only.” In the initial request, Lively’s attorney noted that due to the case involving so many celebrities, information leaking could be bad.

As for what will be held back for attorneys, information that is considered “trade secrets,” including business and marketing plans, will be kept behind closed doors. This also includes things like security measures for clients, medical information, and “highly personal and intimate information about third parties.”

“These cases involve both business competitors and allegations of sexual harm,” Judge Lewis Liman wrote in his decision. “Discovery will necessarily include confidential and sensitive business and personal information. The risk of disclosure is great.”

Although Lively’s camp did get the request they wanted, Judge Liman didn’t grant everything that they asked for, noting that Lively’s original request for any material “likely” to cause issues was too broad.

Lively’s initial complaint alleges that Baldoni created a hostile work environment

All of this stems from a formal complaint that Lively made against Baldoni in December. In it, she states that things got so severe during the filming of It Ends With Us that an all-hands-on-deck meeting was called in response to her claims of a hostile work environment. During the meeting, Lively asked that Baldoni stop showing her nude videos or images of women, that he stop mentioning his pornography addiction to her, that Baldoni stop discussing sexual experiences in front of her, and that he also stop mentioning Lively’s weight.

The complaint also claims that an agreement was made between production company Wayfarer Studios and the cast in which the promotion of the movie would focus “more on [Lively’s character’s] strength and resilience as opposed to describing the film as a story about domestic violence.” However, Lively claims that Baldoni would renege on that and instead spoke in interviews about the film’s serious story.

Lively also claimed that Baldoni and his PR manager, Melissa Nathan, discussed ways to start a social media campaign to harm her reputation. The filing by Lively includes 22 pages of texts between Baldoni’s publicist and Nathan, in which they discuss wanting to have Lively “buried.”
