Ralph Macchio & Jackie Chan Unite in Karate Kid: Legends Trailer
Sony Pictures has finally shared the official Karate: Legends trailer for the newest installment to the iconic martial arts film franchise. Starring Ben Wang, Ralph Macchio, and Jackie Chan, the film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 30, 2025.
“After a family tragedy, kung fu prodigy Li Fong (Wang) is uprooted from his home in Beijing and forced to move to New York City with his mother,” reads the synopsis. “Li struggles to let go of his past as he tries to fit in with his new classmates, and although he doesn’t want to fight, trouble seems to find him everywhere. When a new friend needs his help, Li enters a karate competition – but his skills alone aren’t enough. Li’s kung fu teacher Mr. Han (Chan) enlists original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso (Macchio) for help, and Li learns a new way to fight, merging their two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown.”

What happens in the Karate Kid: Legends trailer?
The video introduces Wang’s Li Fong as he becomes the newest face of the franchise. It teases Li’s struggles in moving to America, where he’ll find himself entering a Karate competition. The trailer also confirmed that Chan’s Mr. Han from the 2010 reboot is Li’s Kung Fu mentor who enlists the help of Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso in training Li for his upcoming competition. The video also highlights some of the movie’s action-packed sequences, showcasing Wang’s impressive martial arts skills.
Karate Kid: Legends is directed by The End of the F***ing World’s Jonathan Entwistle from a screenplay written by Rob Lieber, with Karen Rosenfelt set as a producer. Additional cast members include franchise newcomers Ben Wang, Joshua Jackson, Ming-Na Wen, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Sadie Stanley, Aramis Knight, Wyatt Oleff, and Jennifer-Lyn Christie. It is executive produced by Macchio and Jenny Hinkey.
Created by Robert Mark Kamen, the iconic franchise started with the 1984 film The Karate Kid, which earned legendary actor Pat Morita an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Mr. Miyagi. Due to its commercial and critical success, it spawned two more sequels starring Macchio’s Daniel Larusso, as well as the 1994 spin-off The Next Karate Kid starring Swank’s Julie. In 2010, Harald Zwart directed a stand-alone Karate Kid sequel, which took place in China with Chan and Smith leading the cast. At the moment, the franchise currently has a combined worldwide gross of over $675 million at the box office.
