Justin Lin is still attached to direct, and the November 10, 2027, release date remains intact. Sony will now search for a new star to headline these action blockbuster. Who should replace Momoa? Who should replace Jason Momoa in Sony’s Helldivers cast?

Alan Ritchson

There’s an argument to be made that the most reliable action star in Hollywood right now is Alan Ritchson. The 43-year-old is best known for playing Jack Reacher on Prime Video’s Reacher, the immensely popular TV adaptation of Lee Child’s novels.

Standing at six-foot-three and over 200 pounds, Ritchson’s physical presence alone makes him a worthy replacement for Momoa. His popularity in the action genre is also surging. Ritchson’s latest movie for Netflix, War Machine, recently entered the streamer’s top 10 most-watched list of all time.

Ritchson’s availability might be the biggest obstacle, given his packed production schedule, but if he’s available, Sony should gauge the action star’s interest.

Dave Bautista

Who better to replace Momoa than his co-star in The Wrecking Crew, Dave Bautista? The former WWE superstar has become a well-respected actor since leaving the wrestling ring. Bautista’s big break came as Drax in the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

Bautista’s other notable roles include Sapper Morton in Blade Runner 2049, Duke Cody in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and Drax the Destroyer in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies. Bautista will also appear in two future action movies: Road House 2 and Highlander.

Bautista’s starring role in Army of the Dead could be seen as a template for a potential role in Helldivers. In Army of the Dead, Bautista plays a mercenary tasked with executing a heist in a zombie-infested Las Vegas. That movie has some story problems, but Bautista as the leading man is not one of them.

The 49-year-old has fully immersed himself in Hollywood as he transitions into the next part of his career. Cena’s acting credits include Bumblebee, Argylle, Heads of State, and two Fast and Furious movies.

If Helldivers wants to include more humor in its script, Cena is more than capable of showing off his comedic side. Look no further than his role as Peacemaker in the DC Universe. Cena has thrived playing the antihero and has shown an excellent balance between his action skills and comedic chops.
